What is yoga?
On a personal level, yoga is joy and challenge, satisfaction and frustration, moments of clarity and moments of uncertainty. It is coming face to face with your body, with all its challenges and history, and developing a sense of compassion around the experience. Yoga is knowing that you have a unique place in this world, and taking the necessary steps to move toward your highest potential. In essence, yoga is the practice of self-acceptance, one breath at a time.
Most of the yoga we practice in this country today stems from Hatha Yoga, which approaches spiritual growth through physical practice. Rooted in the Krishnamacharya lineage and the writings of Patanjali, the practice of Hatha Yoga has grown to include many styles and interpretations. Most yoga instructors blend the knowledge and influence of several teachers, adding their own experience and style.
